General information about Kodagu

Kod
agu (formerly Coorg) is a district of the state of Karnataka and is situated in the mountain chain of the Western Ghats. The Western Ghats have been recognised as one of the earth's biodiversity hotspots and given priority for conservation. Kodagu is characterised by forested hills where coffee is grown under the shade of the trees and by valleys in which paddy is the main crop.

During the monsoon from June to September Kodagu receives heavy rainfalls which have their own charm. During the rest of the year the climate is pleasant as temperatures do not climb as high as in the lowlands. It is advisable to bring some warm clothes and an umbrella for any visit. Kodagu is only accessible by road and approximately 6 hours from Bangalore and 4 hours from Mangalore.
